How to navigate the Admin tab

Admin is where you control who gets into your Datanyx workspace and what they can reach once they’re in. This article orients you to the five areas under Admin and points you to the how-to for each task.

Before you begin

You need the Account Admin role. Admin is the only part of Datanyx that Designers and Viewers can’t reach at all, if you can see the option, you have the role.

Everything under Admin applies across all three products. A change to a user, role, or organization affects what that person sees in Lens, Weave, and Maskbits at the same time, so make structural changes during quiet hours where you can.

Steps

Step 1. Open Admin

From the main navigation, click Admin. The tab opens on its first area with a list view.

Step 2. Pick the area that matches your task

Five sub-tabs sit under Admin:

  1. User Management — create people, assign their roles directly, reset passwords, deactivate accounts
  2. Roles Management — define what a role can reach: menus, data sources, datasets, fields, Reports
  3. Group Management — bundle users into teams so roles can be assigned to the team rather than person by person
  4. Organization Management — set up the organizations that scope everything else, and the filter parameters that control what data their users see
  5. Security Tags — create the tags that govern Report and Chart visibility, then pair them with roles

Step 3. Open the how-to for your task

Each area follows the same pattern — a searchable list, an add icon in the bottom-right, and per-row actions for edit and delete, but the fields inside differ enough that each has its own article.

Result

You can find the right Admin area for any access task. Once you’ve used one area, the others will feel familiar: the list, search, add icon, and Settings column behave the same way throughout.

Common issues

  1. I can’t see the Admin tab. You don’t hold the Account Admin role. Another Account Admin can grant it from User Management.
  2. I made a change and nothing happened. The Admin areas depend on each other in a fixed order. A role has to exist before you can assign it to a user or a group; a user has to exist before you can add them to a group; an organization has to exist before any of the above. If a change appears to do nothing, check whether the thing it depends on is actually in place.
  3. A security tag I need isn’t offered when I’m configuring a role. The tag hasn’t been created yet. Create it under Admin → Security Tags first, then come back to Roles Management and attach it.
  4. I’m setting up a brand-new workspace and don’t know where to start. Order matters here, see How to set up a new workspace.
