How to download a Dashboard

Take a copy of your Dashboard away as PDF, Excel, or CSV for sharing with people outside Lens, or for keeping a record of the numbers on a given day. Downloading happens in two stages: you request the file on the Dashboard, then collect it from your Inbox.

Before you begin

You need the Dashboard open and showing what you want to take away.

The file doesn’t arrive in your browser. Requesting a download on the Dashboard sends the file to your Inbox. You then open the Inbox and download it from there. Two steps, two places, this catches people out the first time, because nothing appears to happen after the initial click.

Check your filters first. A download captures the Dashboard as it currently looks, filters included. If you’ve narrowed the data and forgotten, the file goes out narrowed too.

Steps

Step 1. Open the download menu

Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the Dashboard, then hover on Download.

Step 2. Choose a format

  1. PDF — a rendered copy of the Dashboard, laid out as you see it. Best for sharing with people who just need to read it.
  2. Excel — the Dashboard’s data in Excel format, for further analysis.
  3. CSV — the data as plain CSV.

Step 3. Choose the scope, for PDF

PDF asks how much to include:

  1. Current Dashboard — only the Dashboard you’re looking at. Use this by default.
  2. All Dashboard — every Dashboard available to you. This takes noticeably longer, and the more Dashboards you have the longer it takes.

Step 4. Go to your Inbox

Click the Inbox icon in the main navigation. Your requested file appears as a new entry.

Give it a moment. Files are generated in a queue rather than instantly, so click Refresh if it isn’t there yet — especially for All Dashboard, which takes longer.

Step 5. Download it from the Inbox

Find your entry and click Download in its Actions column. The file saves to your computer.

Result

You have a copy of the Dashboard in your chosen format, reflecting the filters and display settings in place at the moment you requested it.

The entry stays in your Inbox until you delete it, so you can download the same file again later without re-requesting it from the Dashboard.

Common issues

  1. Nothing happened when I clicked Download. It did, the file went to your Inbox rather than your browser. Open the Inbox and click Refresh.
  2. The file isn’t in my Inbox yet. Generation is queued, so a short wait is normal, especially for All Dashboard. Click Refresh after a moment.
  3. All Dashboard is taking a long time. It renders every Dashboard you have access to. Use Current Dashboard unless you genuinely need all of them.
  4. The file has less data than the screen showed. A filter was applied at download time. Clear your filters and download again.
  5. Columns are missing from the file. Your display preferences exclude them. Adjust them first.
  6. The download is out of date. The Inbox entry captured the data as it was when you requested it. Downloading it again gives the same numbers, go back to the Dashboard and request a new download.
  7. My Inbox is filling up with downloads. Each request leaves an entry. Delete the ones you’ve finished with.
