How to filter a Dashboard
Narrow the data shown across the Reports on your Dashboard. Filters change what you see without changing anything for anyone else.
Before you begin
You need a Dashboard with at least one Report on it.
A Dashboard Filter only works on Reports that were built to accept it. The filter applies your selection to filters the Reports already have, it can’t create a filter a Report doesn’t declare. So the same filter can narrow one Report on your Dashboard and leave another untouched. That’s expected behavior, not a fault.
Steps
Step 1. Open the filter
Click the Filter option on the Dashboard. Depending on your setup it appears inline, opens in a pop-up, or expands as a panel.
Step 2. Choose your values
Select the values you want. The Reports on the Dashboard update to match.
Step 3. Clear the filter when you’re done
Clear your selection to return to the full data. Worth doing before you download or share anything. A filtered Dashboard downloads filtered, which is easy to forget and awkward to explain afterwards.
Result
The Reports on your Dashboard show only the data matching your selection. Reports without a matching filter are unaffected and continue to show everything.
Common issues
- The filter changed one Report but not another. The second Report doesn’t have a matching filter defined. Ask your Lens Designer to add one if you need it.
- The filter did nothing at all. No Report on the Dashboard declares that filter. This is a design-time setting. Your Designer can add it.
- Everything went empty. Your selection matches no data. Clear the filter and try a broader value.
- I downloaded and got less data than expected. The filter was still applied. Clear it and download again.
