What to do when a Report is missing from your Dashboard

Work out why a Report you expected isn’t showing, and what to ask for. Most causes sit outside the Viewer role, so this article is mainly about diagnosing accurately enough to ask the right person for the right thing.

Before you begin

You need the name of the Report, and ideally where you saw it before or who told you it would be there.

Most reasons a Report doesn’t appear are settings only a Lens Designer or Account Admin can change. That’s not a dead end and knowing which one saves a round of back-and-forth, because “the Report isn’t there” and “the Report is there but Show in Dashboard is off”.

Steps

Step 1. Refresh first

Click Refresh on the Dashboard. If the Report was published or updated while your page was open, this is often all it takes.

Step 2. Check your other Dashboards

If you have more than one Dashboard, look through the categories. Reports can be assigned to specific categories, and a Report moved to a different one looks identical to a Report that’s gone.

Step 3. Clear any filters

An active Dashboard Filter narrows what’s shown. Clear your filters and look again. A filter with no matching data can leave a Report looking empty rather than absent.

Step 4. Check your Inbox

If you were expecting a scheduled delivery rather than something on the Dashboard, it’s in your Inbox, not here. Click Refresh there too, generation can lag the schedule.

Step 5. Work out what to ask for

If none of the above found it, the cause is outside your control. Match what you’re seeing to the right request:

  1. The Report has never appeared for you. It may not be set to display on the Dashboard. Ask your Lens Designer to check Show in Dashboard for that Report.
  2. It appeared before and now doesn’t. Show in Dashboard may have been turned off, or the Report moved. Ask your Designer what changed.
  3. Colleagues can see it and you can’t. This is an access difference, not a Dashboard setting. Ask your Account Admin to check your roles.
  4. It’s in the wrong position, not missing. Order is set per Report by the Designer. Ask them to adjust it.

Step 6. Give them the details

Include the Report name, when you last saw it, whether colleagues can see it, and which Dashboard you’re looking at. That’s usually enough to resolve it without a second exchange.

Result

Either the Report reappears after a refresh or filter clear, or you know precisely what to ask for and who to ask.

Common issues

  1. The Report is there but shows no data. Different problem, the Report is reaching you, but its data is filtered or restricted. Clear your filters, then ask your Designer.
  2. Some columns are missing. Either your column preferences exclude them, or your access restricts them. Check Preferences first.
  3. A column shows masked or scrambled values. That’s deliberate. A security setting on your role governs how that column is presented to you. Your Account Admin can explain what applies to your role.
