How to delete an organization
Remove an organization from the workspace. This is the most consequential deletion in Admin. Organizations scope users, roles, groups, and content, and all of it depends on the organization existing.
Before you begin
You need the Account Admin role and the name of the organization.
What happens to the contents isn’t confirmed. Users, roles, groups, Reports, and Workflows are all scoped to an organization, and we can’t yet state what becomes of them.
Until that’s answered, treat deletion as potentially destructive to everything inside. Don’t delete a populated organization to find out.
Work through this first:
- Move every user out, not just the ones who still need access. No user can be left without an organization. Add each one to another organization and set their primary there.
- Check for content. Reports, Workflows, and rules scoped here may not survive.
- Check for roles and groups. Both are organization-scoped and may go with it.
- Confirm it isn’t your only organization. Datanyx doesn’t allow orphan users, so every user must belong to one.
If the goal is simply to stop people using an organization, there’s a safer route: move the users out and leave the empty organization in place. An unused organization costs nothing, and it means the deletion question never has to be answered under pressure.
Steps
Step 1. Inventory what’s inside
Search User Management, Roles Management, and Group Management for anything scoped to this organization.
Step 2. Move or reassign anything still needed
Give users access to another organization and set their primary there. Recreate any roles or groups you need in the destination organization.
Step 3. Confirm the organization is empty
Re-check that no users, roles, or groups remain scoped to it. This is what makes the deletion safe regardless of how the platform behaves.
Step 4. Open Organization Management
From the main navigation, click Admin, then open the Organization Management tab.
Step 5. Delete
Find the organization, click the delete icon, then click Ok at the warning prompt.
Result
The organization is removed from the list and is no longer assignable to users.
Common issues
- The deletion was blocked. Something is still scoped to the organization, or it’s the only one in the tenant. Move the contents out and try again.
- I deleted the wrong organization. It can’t be recovered. Recreate it with the same details and parameters, then reassign users, roles, and groups from your inventory.
- A filter parameter I needed is gone. Parameters live on the organization and go with it. Recreate them on the organization you moved users to.
